Music has been in Joel’s blood since the day he was born, on Christmas day. Joel would become the only son in a family with four daughters. His mother, a school teacher specializing in music, who has now become a pastor, and his father, a retired Command Sergeant Major in the US Army, instilled the importance of hard work, drive, and dedication into their son at a young age. By the age of four, Joel was already performing gospel music in church. By the age of ten, he was writing songs, and by fifteen, Joel was playing in local country bands around his hometown of Van Wert, Ohio. Immediately, his remarkable talent and captivating stage presence began gaining attention and he quickly found himself opening for acts such as Neal McCoy, Chris Ledoux, Diamond Rio, and Kenny Chesney.
With a solid background, supportive family, and a commitment to his music, Joel moved to Nashville in June of 1999, to further develop his abilities and to follow his dream. Since then, he has performed his unique musical style of “country soul” around town at events including “Fan Fair”, and recently, the world famous “Wildhorse Saloon”. And Joel has even found himself writing with artist Michael Peterson, and multiple award winning songwriter Pat Alger.
The combination of his strong, grounded, family background, and his wide range of musical influences, give him a very relatable and genuine sound. This directly reflects him as a person. His musical influences include, The Blackwood Brothers, Elvis Presley, Joe Diffie, Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, Steve Wariner, Huey Lewis, ZZ-Top, and Harry Connick Jr., just to name a few.
There are many things Joel would like to achieve in his life, but one of the most important to him is making an impact through his music. “Whether it’s making someone laugh when they don’t feel they can, making someone cry when they have been holding it in, or making someone think when they hadn’t done so in a while; I want to make a difference with my music.”
